According to preliminary figures, some of which are estimates, exhibitor attendance fell by 3 to 4 % in 2009. The 2 % drop in German exhibitor numbers actually helped steady the decline. By contrast, exhibitor numbers from abroad fell by 5 %, the result of a relatively large downturn in global trading. The figures for rented space had fallen at around 5 % a little more sharply than exhibitor numbers. On average visitor numbers fell by around 8 to 9 %. Overall, AUMA anticipates the following figures for domestic trade fairs in 2009: 154,000 exhibitors, 8.9 million visitors and 5.7 million m² of rented space.
