Nr. 1/2010 AUMA expects nearly stable trade fair results in Germany 157 international trade fairs to take place this year 15.01.2010 German trade fair organisers are aiming to organise 157 international trade fairs at home this year. AUMA - the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry estimates the trade fair sector to produce stable results in 2010. Exhibitor and visitor numbers and rented space at trade fairs are expected to average nearly the same as at previously held events. Despite initial signs of a general economic recovery the trade fair industry is not yet expected to grow in 2010, as many of the cost-cutting measures decided upon by exhibiting companies last year will only begin to take effect now. In 2009, compared with other marketing instruments, there was a relatively moderate decline in results for German trade fairs, 3 % in exhibitor numbers and 8 % in visitor attendance, this in spite of a sharp economic downturn and significant decrease in global trade. AUMA anticipates the following results for 2010: around 170,000 exhibitors, 9.8 million visitors and 6.7 million m² of rented space at international trade fairs in Germany.
