Trade fair industry recovery is in progress
German trade fair figures much improved during first six months of 2010
01.09.2010
International trade fairs in Germany fared well during the first six months of 2010. With the economy showing significant improvement, numerous trade fairs once again reported positive figures according to the initial projections of AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry.
On average, exhibitor attendance at trade fairs during the first six months of 2010 remained constant (compared with a drop of -4.3% in 2009 overall), with more than 50 per cent of trade fairs reporting an increase over previous events. There was also a significant stabilisation in visitor attendance, which on average was nearly 2% lower than at previous events (compared with -8.4% in 2009 overall). Equally, more than 50 per cent of the trade fairs reported higher visitor attendance. However, during the first six months of 2010 the amount of space rented out still lagged 4% behind the figures for previous events (-6.0% in 2009 overall). Clearly, the after-effects of savings measures made by businesses exhibiting at trade fairs were still being felt.
Faced with good economic forecasts for 2010 and in particular with the prospect of strong and renewed growth in export trade AUMA anticipates the situation of the exhibition industry to improve even further during the second six months of 2010.
Looking at 2010 overall it is conceivable that exhibitor numbers at international trade fairs will reach marginally positive figures, with visitor attendance remaining stable.
