AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry

represents the interests

of the trade fair industry on a national and international level in dealings with parliament, ministries, authorities and other organizations.

informs exhibitors and visitors

about dates, product ranges, exhibitor and visitor figures of German and foreign events by internet, printed media and individual information. As a complement to this, it publishes specialist brochures for the preparation and staging of trade fair participations.

supports the international marketing of the German organizers

A series of posters and advertisements, the "Messen made in Germany" folder and a video film, provide information worldwide about the specific qualities of German trade fairs and organizers. In addition, AUMA organizes and supports seminars and presentations for opinion-makers, especially in countries outside Europe.

conducts marketing pro trade fair

through the outdoor advertising campaign "Your success is only fair", through the AUMA_Trade Fair Benefits Check for the determination of costs and benefits of trade fair participations and through the CD-ROM "Messe fit" with tips for planning and conduct of trade fair participations. The basis for marketing pro trade fair are, among others, research projects on the position of the trade fair in the marketing mix.

maintains the Institute of the German Trade Fair Industry

The Institute of the German Trade Fair Industry houses information on all of AUMA’s activities with regard to research, professional training and advanced training. The institute provides a platform for knowledge transfer and an opportunity to exchange expert information within the industry. It awards research assignments and carries out surveys, among them an annual poll under the heading of "AUMA_MesseTrend" (AUMA – Trade Fair Trends). The German Trade Fair Library is also part of the institute.

provides access to specialist literature in the German Trade Fair Library

As part of the Institute of the German Trade Fair Industry, the German Trade Fair Library has a large stock of books, scientific works, newspaper articles, trade fair catalogues and publications which are now out of print. The library is open to students, PhD researchers and anyone whose professional interests are linked with trade fairs.

improves the transparency of the trade fair market

As a neutral clearing body, it is involved in balancing the various interests of exhibitors, visitors and organizers with respect to the location, date or product range of trade fairs. In addition, AUMA ensures clarity and truth in relation to event descriptions.

is responsible for the management of FKM

The FKM - Society for the Voluntary Control of Trade Fair and Exhibition Statistics - has developed uniform rules for the collection and publication of exhibitor and visitor figures and for the conducting of visitor analyses with the aim of ensuring the comparability of trade fair figures. Adherence to the regulations is controlled by a company of public accountants.

coordinates the German participations at foreign fairs

AUMA, in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and also the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, prepares the Foreign Trade Fair Participation Programme of Germany. Within the framework of this programme, the Federal Government provides export platforms where German companies can participate at foreign events, but also supports separate presentations by German industry abroad. The interests of business and politics in this sector are coordinated within the Working group for Foreign Trade Fair Participation at AUMA, in which representatives of export-oriented associations regularly meet the representatives of the Ministries.

AUMA's members are

  • the central associations of German business (industry, trade, skilled trades etc.),
  • trade associations of the exhibiting and visiting industries who are interested in trade fairs,
  • the German trade fair and exhibition organizers as well as the companies organizing foreign trade fair participations,
  • associations of companies providing services for the trade fair industry, such as stand construction, design and logistics,
  • associations of the congress industry.
