At the beginning of 2020, 2,8 million square meter of hall space was available at German trade fair venues of at least national importance, about 0.5% more than in the previous year. The investments of more than 300 million euro in 2019 were concentrated on the modernisation and replacement of halls and investments in technology and services. This was the result of a survey conducted by AUMA in spring 2020.
Included were 26 exhibition centres where at least one exhibition takes place that is classified by AUMA as a national or international event. In total more than one billion euro have been invested over the last five years, from the modernisation of hall capacities, entrances, catering, digital infrastructure to visitor admission and registration systems.
AUMA's Managing Director Jörn Holtmeier comments: "In recent years, the trade fair venues have invested a lot in the quality of their grounds. It pays off now when you restart. The modern and spacious grounds and the technical infrastructure offer very good conditions to meet the hygiene and distance rules and the requirements for the identification of the participants. This means that important conditions are in place for successful trade fairs in autumn 2020".
