Walter Mennekes, the long-term Chairman of AUMA – the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry – and Managing Partner and Managing Director of Mennekes Elektrotechnik GmbH & Co. KG based in Kirchhundem, was elected Honorary Chairman by the AUMA General Assembly in Berlin on 28 May 2019. He also received the AUMA medal in gold.
Mennekes joined the AUMA Board of Directors in May 2000 and became its Chairman in June 2013. He has now stepped down from both positions. During his term of office he did great service to both AUMA and the German exhibition industry. He especially promoted the Foreign Trade Fair Participation Programme of Germany, which supports primarily small and medium-sized companies in export marketing. He also devoted extensive attention to further strengthening exhibitions as the most important B2B marketing instrument in German business.
As of 28 May 2019, the new AUMA Chairman is Philip Harting, Chairman of the Board of the HARTING Technology Group based in Espelkamp. AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, has 74 members, including 38 industry associations representing exhibitors, visitors and service companies, as well as 36 exhibition organisers.
