Germany continues to need a strong and diverse range of medium-sized companies. It is precisely the participation by small and medium-sized enterprises that has given German trade fairs the diversity that also makes them so attractive internationally. Companies with fewer than 500 employees account for 85% of exhibitors at specialised fairs in Germany.
The great majority of trade fair exhibitors are medium-sized companies. Fairs help them remain competitive on an international basis.
So all necessary policy steps must be taken and general conditions ensured to keep medium-sized companies competitive, as the backbone of the exhibiting industry. This applies especially to foreign trade and innovation policy, as well as to taxation.
