Our tasks
As the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, we represent the interests of the trade fair industry at national and international level. We represent the trade fair industry in politics, business and society and create optimum conditions for exhibitors, organisers and visitors. Our work includes representing interests, providing information and advice and supporting export activities. In doing so, we strengthen Germany as a trade fair centre in global competition and promote innovation in the industry.
Representation of interests
Positioning the German trade fair industry in politics, business and society - nationally and internationally
AUMA represents the interests of the trade fair industry vis-à-vis the legislative and executive branches at federal and state level as well as vis-à-vis the European Union. The main focus is on promoting sales and exports, especially for SMEs and start-ups, as well as tax, construction and labour law and sustainability. To this end, we are in regular contact with the respective federal ministries. As a permanent guest, we also take part in the meetings of the federal and state committees for domestic and international trade fairs.
We are a member of the International Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and maintain contacts with foreign and international trade fair organisations. We also work closely with other trade fair industry organisations. These include the organiser organisations GDG, IDFA and FAMA. We also participate in committees of umbrella organisations of the German industry. In all our activities, our aim is to balance the interests of exhibitors, organisers and visitors.
We represent the interests of exhibitors, organisers and visitors.

Trade fair activities abroad
Supporting the German economy with exports
Every year, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) set up foreign trade fair programmes. We represent and coordinate the interests of German industry in the BMWK programme and support both ministries in implementing their programmes. Small and medium-sized enterprises in particular benefit from these joint company participations when tapping into foreign markets.
We stand up for SMEs - for good business at trade fairs abroad.
Communication, marketing and events
Positioning trade fairs made in Germany as an efficient marketing tool
We conduct umbrella marketing for Germany as a trade fair centre and for the trade fair medium, promoting the advantages of trade fairs as a communication tool for companies and offering valuable argumentation aids.
We inform media representatives and report on topics such as the trade fair industry, lobbying and trade fair developments in media information, interviews and the AUMA Compact newsletter as well as on our social media channels. In the AUMA Trends publication, we provide an annual look at trends and topics in the trade fair industry and a review of the past trade fair year.
As the leading organisation of the trade fair industry, we invite you to various events in Berlin every year. For example, the AUMA MesseTreffis a central event for the entire industry that promotes dialogue between the trade fair industry and politicians, associations and the media. In addition, we organise AUMA expert forums and working groups for our members several times a year on current topics with a strong practical focus.
We are committed to making Germany an attractive trade fair centre - a trendsetter in global competition.
