Trade fair participation by companies from Germany remains stable - compared to the previous year, however, the ongoing mix of recession, inflation and political uncertainties is making the decision to participate in trade fairs increasingly dynamic.

Most organisers in Germany are reporting positive business this year. AUMA therefore expects annual sales to increase to just under four billion euros. This means that the German trade fair industry is continuing to approach pre-coronavirus pandemic sales levels.

Regional trade fairs in Germany have overcome the coronavirus crisis. Around 36,000 exhibiting companies took part in the 132 regional trade fairs in Germany in 2023. This is over 70 percent more than in 2022. They occupied a stand area of almost 1.13 million square metres (+ 61 percent) and attracted the interest of 3.9 million visitors (+ 86 percent).

AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, has now calculated the participation of exhibiting companies and visitors from abroad and the most important countries of origin for 2023.

The trade fair industry in Germany has left the coronavirus crisis behind. For 2023 as a whole, the industry recorded more than just a big increase compared to 2022, according to a recent study by the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA).

2.86 million square metres of hall space are currently available at German trade fair venues of national or international importance. This is a slight increase of just under 60,000 square metres (+ 2.1 percent) compared to the previous year.
