Trade fair promotion abroad

Support for your trade fair appearances worldwide: funding opportunities for German companies at trade fairs abroad.

Foreign trade fair programmes of the federal government

German companies that exhibit at trade fairs abroad secure and strengthen the export of German goods and services. This is why the Federal Republic of Germany primarily supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with its foreign trade fair programme (AMP). The keyword here is "German Pavilion", the joint stand of the Federal Government under its umbrella brand "made in Germany".

Present your company, your goods and your services at selected trade fairs abroad at low cost. You can also benefit from the professional organisational support of German implementation companies that have specialists in the foreign trade fair programme.

Content and organisation

The budget for the foreign trade fair programme is made available each year by the Bundestag. AUMA coordinates the decision as to which trade fairs are included in the foreign trade fair programme of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) from the point of view of the industry. Other trade fairs are included by the responsible ministries for political reasons. Click here for the foreign trade fair programmes for the current and coming year.

Good reasons why investments in the foreign trade fair programme are more than well spent.

  • German presence has a political signalling effect.
  • The umbrella brand "made in Germany" is a trade fair magnet worldwide.
  • The sales effects secure jobs and tax revenues in Germany.
  • The export quota of foreign exhibitors is particularly high.
  • Medium-sized companies benefit in particular.
  • Markets that are difficult to access become accessible.
  • The demand for participation in trade fairs abroad is high and rising.
  • The foreign trade fair programme is a success story - and has been for almost 75 years.

This is why the budget for the foreign trade fair programme must be strengthened and not cut.

Fact check: This is how good the international trade fair programme really is

On behalf of AUMA, TNS Infratest surveyed 500 exhibitors who took part in the federal government's foreign trade fair programme in 2014/2015. And these are the representative results:

  • Participation in foreign trade fairs is a significant cornerstone of German exports: 84 per cent of exhibitors were able to secure or increase their exports.
  • The export turnover induced by the foreign trade fair programme amounts to 4.7 billion euros for all SMEs participating in the programme.
  • Small and medium-sized companies make particularly intensive use of the foreign trade fair programme: 85 percent have fewer than 500 employees.
  • Exhibitors appreciate the positive image effect of the umbrella brand "made in Germany".
  • Exhibitors attest to the excellent work of the implementation companies.
  • The foreign trade fair programme is demand-oriented: Exhibitors are becoming more involved in the USA, the UAE and Iran.
  • The current results confirm the good results of the past four surveys.

All the results of the study can be found in the brochure "Use of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy's foreign trade fair programme".
